Today was supposed to be the hardest day of the TMB. I don’t think it was the hardest, yet it definitely was challenging.
Basically, we use a book to plan our journey. Almost each stage of the route has an alternative option. Today’s alternative was supposed to reach the highest point by the most difficult route. We decided to take it.
Today we decided to hike together with Yael and Yoram, an Israeli couple about my parents’ age, having their first vacation without the kids in 20 years.
The route had really big, tough rocks we had to go through. After a while we had to leave the alpines alone and climb using our hands, as the rocks were getting near the edge. On that part both Yoav and I were really close to falling.
After a really enjoyable, yet scary climbing, we reached the peak. It was on a saddle and we had great views to both sides.
And then we had a never ending descent. It was so steep so my knees hurt really badly. Surprising enough, it was tougher than the way up.
When we finally got down, we stooped ror some ice cream, and then had a plain 45 minutes walk to our refuge in La Forclaz.
