Today was long and filled with experiences. My legs got sore, (rightfully) blaming me for yesterday’s climbing to the Marienburg. In order to make up for the short day we had, we decided to wake up earlier than usual and get on the way.
First we went to Bremm, a nice town with not much too see except for the steepest vineyard in Europe (the Calmont) and another 180 degrees curve of the Mosel river.
Something interesting to note is that throughout the Mosel there are numerous camping sites. Many of them are filled with vans. The Germans (and many Dutch as well) use some kind of fabric they attach to the vehicle and create some sort of a balcony.
We cycled all the way to Beilstein. Its a nice town, that really stands for the gorgeous castle of Metternich on top of it.
We climbed to the castle by foot for some great views of the river.
From the castle we went to a close by Jewish cemetery.
Surprisingly we found out that on the way back from the cemetery to the castle, we got an ever better view (having the castle inside it).
We climbed down the castle and walked the alleys of Beilstein for a short time.
We left Beilstein after lunch and headed towards Cochem. This is one of the bigger towns on the river, and it had an even more impressive castle above.
The streets of the town center are also quite nice:
We finished by riding under soft-to-medium rain to Moselkern. This town is populated mostly by Dutch people! We finished our long journey with an apfelstrudel 😉
